Truly Exquisite: Summer 2020

Online exhibition starting July 11

Vita Art Center is inviting artists to participate in a collaborative, chance-based surrealist art game known as the exquisite corpse. The “Truly Exquisite, 2020″ exhibition follows the spirit of collaboration and inventiveness of the surrealist movement by bringing together our art community for an assembled art experience. Each exhibited final piece will be a completed figure made of 4 panels, each one by a different artists.

About Exquisite Corpse Game: The chance-based drawing game known as the Exquisite Corpse involved each participant creating a portion of a human figure without seeing what others had created, which resulted in fantastic distortions, juxtapositions and surreal composite figures.  The technique was invented by artists and poets associated with the Surrealism Movement that was founded by Andre Breton in Europe after WWI and continued into the 1950s.

Collaborative pieces priced to sell at $120.00 (4 panels – different artists).

Simple Pleasures: Summer 2020

Simple Pleasures:
What Brings You Joy?

As our community sheltered in place, we called on our local artists to recreate what brings them joy!  Living in a beachside town, caring for colorful spring gardens, caring for beloved pets, and eating well… there is much to be thankful for. This exhibit is fully accessible online, and in-person viewings by appointment are available.  You can also walk by our front window on Linden Avenue to see the pieces in person, rotated on a regular basis.
