Current Body of Work
I am inspired by my blue and gold macaw, Clairice (“Claire”), who was literally delivered on my doorstep in May 2013 with 45 minutes notice. What was initially a temporary rescue became a forever home as we bonded and changed each other’s lives for the better. There is no denying how special she is. She blesses people every time we leave the house.
The plight of parrots is relatively unknown. They are misunderstood captive animals with high mental and emotional intelligence, natural instincts and long lives. Claire has a life expectancy of 80-100 years. And yet, most people do not know how or are unequipped to care for them long term.
I use acrylic paint and walnut oil without solvents for oil painting to protect her delicate respiratory system and my own.
It is my hope and intention that I can bring awareness to her mysticism and that of all captive birds through my work, as well as create a mirror for the beauty and intentionality of humans who feel a connection through it.
